The
Bikes & Kit
Speedway
is a very specialised sport, especially when it comes to the bikes
used. There are only 2 major speedway manufactures at the moment, Jawa
(Czech) who are our engine makers and GM (Italy). Other companies used
to make
speedway engines when they were up right in the frame (J.A.P & Honda),
but
since the laydown engines where introduced its been Jawa and GM all
the way.
The
bikes are also very powerful compared to other off-road sports, all
professional competition bikes are 500cc in speedway. The other trademark
of speedway is that the bikes have no brakes. The riding kit is no diffferent
than any other off-road racing, body armour and helmets etc are all
the same. The only difference is that speedway riders need to where
specified crashhelmet colours during races for identification and speedway
riders have steel shoes on there left foot.
