The Full Course

No one can learn to ride a speedway bike in one afternoon so we offer beginners courses that last all season. We recommend riders to commit themselves to a full season of training at Lydd which, would consist of 20 - 24 sessions depending on our good friend the weather. Half seasons training of 10 sessions are also available, shorter courses can be arranged on request.

During our training we teach health and safety issues including layinga bike down, machine maintenance and preparation. We also teach riding techniques , such as riding the line, sliding out of and into corners correctly, safe starting procedures, then more advanced riding like racing lines and overtaking maneuvers. We teach you at your own pace, it might take you 4 weeks, it might take you 24, it doesn't matter. One way or the other we will get you sliding! We have some big names here at Lydd in the past, Including six times world speedway world champion Ivan Mauger, former British speedway instructor Louis Carr, sky sports television presenter and multiple world grasstrack champion Kelvin Tatum, former International Dave Mullett as well. Then there are more recent additions like Elite League stars Edward Kennett, Steve Boxhall and William Lawson, Premier League regulars Chris Schramm, David Mason, Daniel Giffard, Chris Johnson, Barry Burchatt, Mark Baseby, Jamie Courtney and James Brundle. We could go on but the list would be 10 foot long!

You do not need a license or a permit to ride at Lydd speedway, saving you a healthy 70 pounds. If you do have a license that's fine however your insurance policy is not valid at Lydd. We do advise all riders to take out A personal accident insurance policy with the C.I.C.A, who will pay out on any injury sustained at Lydd. This advice especially applies to these who have independents and bills to pay. Speedway racing is dangerous and whilst we do everything within our power to ensure everyone's safety, accidents can and do happen. Lydd speedway club cannot be held responsible for any injuries caused on our around Lydd's speedway circuit.

We are now taking bookings for the 2011 & 2012 seasons. We do half-season and full-season packages, please call Martyn Smith or e-mail Malcolm for more information, details on contact us page.
