THE
TEAM HISTORY
Both
the brothers have been watching speedway since childhood, travelling
all over the country watching with Dad Barrie Pearce. In summer 2005
they tried the Power sliding school at King’s Lynn with senior
tutor Peter Boast. Afte
r
enjoying this experience they then had a go at the Olle Nygren power
speedway training weekend at King’s Lynn the following year.
During this school they met with a man named Matthew from Poole, who
put Simon in Contact with Lydd speedway promoter Malcolm Smith. Simon
decided to sell his Motocross bike and both brothers put money together
to buy are speedway bike on e-bay during the winter of 2007. Meanwhile
Father Barrie invested money in with Simon to build a workshop in
the yard behind the house for storage and repairs to the bikes. Pearce
Race Team was officially formed in Spring 2007 and regular practice
with new training instructor Malcolm Smith began in May of that year.
During the summer and Autumn Simon and Martin did not miss one Sunday
of training and continued into the cold weather. Preperation began
in Winter 2008 to start racing in the summer following, with money
invested in Machinery and transportation. The brothers debuted as
Pearce Race Team in a Southern Track Riders Club meeting at King’s
Lynn speedway on June 15th 2008. Martin and Simon managed 6 points
each and took 3rd and 4th respectably in their novice class
debut.
Both riders received immediate promotion to the intermediate tier
the following week at Mildenhal speedway. Since then both riders competed
regularly with the STRA while continuing to practice at Lydd speedway.
On June 21st 2009 the riders made
there
debut with the Dragons Amateur speedway club, although the occasion
was overshadowed by a nasty crash suffered by Simon, resulting in
broken bones in his right hand. Since then the boys have represented
the Iwade Colts and New Romney Falcons while riding in other individual
and team events across the UK. Martin Pearce has collected multiple
awards and trophy’s during this short spell, while Simon recorded
the first gold medal with a STRA championship round victory at Rye
House Speedway. Since then both riders have collected silverware and
medals in many events, boasting an impressive record since there 2008
debut. Both riders are looking forward to many more years of racing
and will be looking to race abroad in the not to distant future.
